19/03092/FUL | Partial demolition of existing buildings in association with the redevelopment of the site to provide a mixed use building with retention of existing facade to Surbiton Road, and residential units above including provision of car parking and cycle parking spaces, private amenity space and roof terraces and communal courtyard.

We welcome the retention of this attractive historic building – which was previously a Pub – by its conversion into new flats, nor do we object to the new extension facing Southsea Road.

However we object to the new addition of the new 2 top storey element. Its design is totally out of keeping with the rest of the building, which should be noted is classified as a BTM i.e. a “Building of Townscape Merit”.

We appreciate that there may be economic reasons to have to add extra accommodation nevertheless we think that any new structure above the existing roof should be subservient to the main body of the old structure and be much more in keeping. This could be achieved by putting any new flats within a mansard roof.
