20/00130/FUL Chiltern Works and  127 Chiltern Drive Surbiton Development of 56 flats and new commercial floor space on the Ground floor.

We appreciate that this site is underused and scruffy , so it should be redeveloped with some new residential units, especially as it’s so convenient for access to Berrylands Station. However the Society objects very strongly to submitted plans. They are a gross over development of this site. Even if they meet the minimum distance between residential flats,  these new buildings would be overbearing and would cause perceived overlooking on to the adjacent maisonettes on Chiltern Drive.

The elevations are some of the worst we have ever seen: repetitive and utterly bland. The buildings are far too high for this suburban area which is characterised by modest 2 storey houses throughout the Berrylands area.

We also question the accuracy of the drawings, which show the access to the site would be able to accommodate large goods vehicles – including refuse lorries – being able to [a] gain access into the site and [b] able to turn around within the site and then leave the site. The access to the site from Chiltern Drive- with uncontrolled parking on both sides – would be challenging and possibly dangerous given the numbers of pedestrians going to and from to this popular station.
