Clive Chapman Architects consulting on proposals for former service station in Coombe Road, Kingston

SITE OF THE FORMER SERVICE STATION, COOMBE ROAD, KINGSTON, KT2 7AB

This proposal is for a mixed-use development within a 4, 5 and 6 storey building, including residential apartments and commercial space, for the site known as the Former Service Station, Coombe Road, Kingston upon Thames, KT2 7AB.

The scheme comprises 29 residential units, together with a commercial space on the ground floor.

The residential accommodation comprises 12  x 1-bed flats (at 40-68m2), 10 x  2-bed flats (at 61-82m2), and 7 x  3-bed flats (at 76m-77m2). It will incorporate 3 wheelchair units on the ground and first floors, and provision of cycle / refuse /  recycling storage, plus on-street disabled bay (blue badge) and delivery bay, together with associated amenity space and a play area. The ground floor commercial unit, is a flexible space of 138m².

A key part of the design is the stepped form, rising from the railway bridge to the east, up to the new Kingstons House development to the west, together with an articulated façade that incorporates inset balconies along the Coombe Road frontage, and landscaping softening the street-scene.

A public consultation drop-in event will be held on Friday 17th March from 4.00pm – 7.00pm at 1st Kingston Scout Hut Hall,293 Park Road, Kingston upon Thames, KT2 5LY. The consultation event is an opportunity for the local community to review the designs whilst having the chance to discuss the proposals with the architects, and be able to put forward comments or considerations to the team.
